Quarr Abbey is a working Benedictine monastery and home to a community of monks who dedicate their life to prayer, contemplation and community life. The monastery, just outside Ryde and close to the ferry port, is set in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Enjoy the grounds and pilgrim chapel along with the monastery shop and art gallery, where local artists display their work, or relax in the popular teashop café with its freshly made food. The farm shop offers a variety of local Island products, along with the abbey’s own allotment-grown produce and jams, chutneys, honey, apple juice and cider. Visitors can even buy pig food to feed the popular resident pigs. The new exhibition centre allows visitors to learn about the history and life of the Abbey. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful newly landscaped grounds, including a new orchard area, a woodland walk (children’s explorer kits available), and a hen rescue project. The Abbey also has improved access and car parking facilities. Daily (except Good Friday), summer, 10am-5pm, Sun, 11.15am-5pm; winter, 10am-4pm, Sun 11.15am-4pm.
